Flemish pop vocalist Sam Gooris entered the world in Bonheiden during 1973 and first captured widespread attention by claiming victory in the 1989 edition of Soundmixshow while impersonating Shakin' Stevens. His career peak arrived three years afterward via the chart-topping single "Marijke," an achievement quickly followed by the 1994 release of his debut album Kom Terug and the subsequent effort Laat Het Gras Maar Groeien in 1995. Throughout the greater part of the 2000s Gooris shifted focus toward screen work, taking a lead role in the reality series De Pfaffs as well as appearing in the films Plop in de Stad from 2006 and K3 Bengeltjes from 2012. Following a sixteen-year hiatus from recording, he reemerged on the pop landscape in 2011 with the covers collection Ambiance in de Lage Landen, which blended Dutch-language and Flemish-language material.
