Hailing from Hull in the United Kingdom, Bdrmm operates as a quartet that occupies the divide between dream pop and shoegaze, moving fluidly from spectral melancholy to insistent delay textures. Their first album, Bedroom, arrived in 2020 and folded in post-punk, Krautrock, and 1990s alternative elements, whereas the 2023 follow-up I Don't Know leaned further into electronic and ambient shading.

What started as Ryan Smith’s solo project grew into a band once he recruited his brother Jordan Smith on bass, then added Joe Vickers on guitar, Danny Hull on synth and backing vocals, and Luke Irvin on drums. After several digital releases, the single “C:U” landed on the small London imprint Permanent Creeps and gained radio exposure. Sonic Cathedral took notice, signing the group in 2019 and issuing the debut EP If Not, When? later that year. Bedroom appeared in 2020, followed later the same year by The Bedroom Tapes, an EP of live cuts and remixes. The single “Port” surfaced in 2021 and was reworked by A Place to Bury Strangers, Daniel Avery, Jonathan Snipes (clipping.), and additional artists. A dreamy piece called “Three” emerged in 2022.

By 2023 the lineup comprised Ryan Smith, Jordan Smith, Joe Vickers, and drummer Conor Murray. The band moved to Mogwai’s Rock Action Records, where their second album I Don't Know pulled from a broader range of sources than Bedroom, among them ambient, trip-hop, slowcore, and jazz.
