Belvedere took their moniker from the 1980s sitcom and formed in Calgary, Alberta, toward the end of 1995 as a trio featuring Steve Rawles on guitar and vocals, Brock on bass, and Dan Hrynuik on drums. Their melodic pop-punk approach, which drew inspiration from Bad Religion and NOFX, stayed consistent even as the group cycled through members over the years. The eventual lineup additions of second guitarist Scott Solo, also known as Scott Marshall, replacement drummer Jay Hollywood, and replacement bassist Jason Sinclair enabled the quartet to issue their first album, Because No One Stopped Us, in 1998 on Hourglass and 206 Records. After logging extensive road time throughout 1999, including a stretch alongside Bad Religion and Strung Out, the band delivered their next effort, Angels Live in My Town, on 206 Records in early 2000. The Montreal label Union 2112 put out Belvedere’s proper second album, ’Twas Hell Said Former Child, in 2001, the same year the group embarked on its inaugural European tour. A split record with Downway titled Hometown Advantage appeared in 2003. For the follow-up studio album the members worked with producer Blair Calibaba of Sum 41 in Calgary to record Fast Forward Eats the Tape, after which they played spring 2004 shows alongside Death by Stereo, Tsunami Bomb, and Misconduct. In 2005 the final configuration of Rawles, Marshall, Sinclair, and drummer Graham Churchill announced the band’s dissolution.
