Born in the Netherlands, Liebrand built a reputation as a Dutch house remixer, although he has long insisted that the re-recording techniques he employs push his output closer to authentic cover versions. In the 1990s he stepped forward as a recording artist himself, releasing the tracks ‘Eve Of The War’ and ‘Black Belly’. Among his remix credits are notable contributions to releases by Phil Collins and Hot Chocolate. He also moved into a more straightforward dance setting to helm the Crystal Palace project that included CP’s ‘Son Of Godzilla’. His solo album spotlighted British vocalist Carol Kenyon, already known from Heaven 17’s ‘Temptation’, alongside rapper Toni Scott. “I’ve always enjoyed being a bit in the background,” he maintained. The singles that reached the charts encompass Jeff Lynne’s ‘Eve Of The War’, Bill Withers’ ‘Lovely Day’, Phil Collins’ ‘In The Air Tonight’, Vangelis’ ‘Puls(t)ar’ and the Ram Jam Band’s ‘Black Berry’. Every one of those productions originated for his own program on Radio Veronica in Holland.
