The Billy Walton Band, based in Asbury Park, New Jersey, fuses hard-edged urban blues with the emotional depth of classic R&B and roots rock across both its live appearances and studio work. The group maintains a steady schedule of dates throughout Europe and the United States.

Walton launched his professional career at age 15, playing shows on Long Beach Island with his mother providing transportation between gigs. He later became a member of Boccigalupe & the Bad Boys, a longtime Asbury Park outfit that included Tony Amato, who had been active in the local scene since the 1970s. During this stretch Walton earned the nickname "Wonder Boy," contributed guitar to the band's sole album, 2004's It's My Turn Now, performed countless concerts, and shared stages with rock figures such as Bruce Springsteen, Gary "U.S." Bonds, and Stevie Ray Vaughan's backing band, Double Trouble.

He assembled his own group in 2006 and began working in Europe the following year. The Billy Walton Band established itself as a fixture on the British blues circuit, appearing regularly at clubs including Ronnie Scott's. In 2010 Walton received an invitation to join Southside Johnny & the Asbury Jukes, resulting in several years of simultaneous commitments that encompassed touring and recording with both acts. A notable achievement during his time with the Jukes was capturing a live version of their most celebrated album, Hearts of Stone, whose original creative force, Steven Van Zandt, wrote and arranged much of the material.

The Billy Walton Band's first recording, the self-titled The Billy Walton Band, appeared in 2009 and was followed by Neon City in 2010; both were available only at shows or through the band's website. Crank It Up!, a stripped-down quartet release from 2012, earned favorable notices in Europe and along the East Coast of the United States, which in turn supported expanded touring in the States. Produced by Tony Braunagel, 2015's Wish for What You Want on Vizztone presented an expanded eight-piece lineup that incorporated Hammond B-3 and a full horn section. The band's crunchy, hard-rocking blues, colored by thick soul and R&B in the established Asbury Park manner, came across most vividly in its high-energy concerts. These performances quickly drew attention from European press and radio, securing festival slots across the continent. Constant road work combined with regular appearances in Asbury Park not only sustained the group but also allowed new material to be shaped during performances. Now configured as a sextet, the Billy Walton Band and Vizztone launched a Pledge Music campaign for the group's fifth album, Soul of a Man, which arrived in January 2018. A promotional video single of the title track preceded the release, and "Hell or High Water" followed as the next single. The record attracted more positive coverage and radio play than the band's entire previous catalog. After a series of East Coast shows the musicians once again set out for Europe.
