Biography
After encountering producers Arn Schlürmann and Stani Djukanovic, German pop singer, actress and television host Jasmin Wagner, known professionally as Blumchën, entered the dance-music sphere. The trio created her debut single “Herz an Herz,” which was quickly followed by “Kleiner Satellit (Piep, Piep)” and “Boomerang.”
Blumchën’s first album, Herzfrequenz, appeared in German and was simultaneously issued in English under the title Heartbeat by Blossom. The dance-pop newcomer next contributed a version of “Bicycle Race” to the Queen tribute collection Queen Dance Traxx 1, an effort that earned her an Echo Award—the German equivalent of a Grammy—which she received again in 1999.
Her sophomore release, Verliebt, arrived in May 1997 and contained a spirited take on Nena’s “Nur Geträumt” from the 1983 debut album, together with the hit single “Verliebt,” also known as “In Love.” In 1998 Blumchën recorded a cover of Rozalla’s smash “Everybody’s Free,” and in 2000 she tackled the Bangles’ “Walk Like An Egyptian.”
In 2001 Jasmin Wagner stepped into acting, playing Ingrid in the car-racing drama Driven, a film about generational conflict directed by Renny Harlin.
