Sean Boston, performing as Black Attack, grew up in Manhattan and recognized by age thirteen that his future lay in MC work. He began with the local outfit Smoked Out Productions before striking out independently in the mid-1990s. That move brought him together with former Beatnuts member Al Tariq, then preparing his solo debut God Connections for Correct Records in 1996.

The next year Black Attack issued the underground 12-inch “Holdin’ It Down” b/w “Verbal Attack,” featuring Problemz, on Correct. The record quickly built his reputation, yet label support never kept pace with his abilities. He drifted among independent imprints, issuing only scattered material such as the My Crown 12-inch.

Contact with Japanese turntablist DJ Honda, then living in Manhattan, opened new opportunities. Black Attack supplied numerous tracks to Honda’s self-titled 1996 debut as well as HII (1998) and HIII (2001). Work on the second album reconnected him with Al Tariq and Problemz. The three joined Honda for European tours and performed their own shows; the resulting chemistry led them to form Missin’ Linx, a short-lived project. On the point of stepping away, Black Attack reappeared in 2007 with the independent single “Black Man.”
