Nigerian rapper, vocalist, and songwriter Blackmagic entered the world as Efemena Mukoro in Lagos, where he spent his formative years. An early fascination with capturing sounds and delivering rhymes evolved during the late 2000s into a committed hip-hop identity he first performed under as Ejay. Leaving formal studies behind to pursue music full time, he secured a recording contract with Syndik8 Records in 2010, bringing a distinctive approach that blended soul, Afro-beat, and a playful, occasionally eccentric delivery. Over the ensuing years he released multiple singles alongside his debut album Blackmagic 1.0 in 2011 and its 2013 successor Blackmagic 2.0. Around that same period Mukoro ended his association with Syndik8 and formalized the shift from earlier stage-name iterations—Ejay and Ejay Blackmagic among them—to the streamlined moniker Blackmagic. He maintained his output by prioritizing joint projects, including the 2015 release Black Friday alongside Kid Konnect and the 2016 single “Wonder” featuring trap superstar Fetty Wap.
