Brian Tyler

Los Angeles-born Brian Tyler launched his professional journey as a conductor, producer, and Emmy-nominated composer whose catalog spans cinema, television, and interactive entertainment, amassing his initial screen credits in 1997. From there he supplied scores for major releases such as Constantine in 2005, Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007, and numerous chapters of The Fast and the Furious series. Widely recognized for fusing high-octane orchestral forces with rock and electronic textures, his output during the early 2010s encompassed Marvel projects including Iron Man 3 and Avengers: Age of Ultron alongside game soundtracks for Lego Universe and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. Demonstrating broader range, he explored jazz-inflected and emotionally nuanced writing for the 2018 romantic comedy Crazy Rich Asians before resuming franchise assignments with F9 in 2021, Scream in 2022, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023.

Tyler studied at UCLA and Harvard, then built a thriving career as a largely self-taught multi-instrumentalist fluent on drums, piano, guitar, bass, cello, percussion, synthesizer, charango, and bouzouki. Shortly after completing his Harvard degree he began scoring features, starting with 1997’s Bartender and the following year’s Six String Samurai, work that secured his breakthrough assignment on the 2001 Bill Paxton-directed thriller Frailty.

Demand for his services soon grew across both small and large screens; he contributed to the television series The Education of Max Bickford from 2001 to 2002, supplied music for two 2003 episodes of Star Trek: Enterprise, and scored the 2003 theatrical releases The Hunted and Timeline. He collaborated with Klaus Badelt on the 2005 action film Constantine and made his first entry into The Fast and the Furious franchise with 2006’s Tokyo Drift. Additional franchise contributions arrived steadily, encompassing Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem in 2007, Rambo in 2008, and Final Destination in 2009. Video-game work commenced in 2010 with Lego Universe and continued through titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, Far Cry 3, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, while television duties included Terra Nova in 2011 and Transformers Prime from 2010 to 2013.

Returning to feature films, Tyler entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2013 with Iron Man 3 and Thor: The Dark World. The year 2014 brought Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and The Expendables 3, as well as the chart-topping single “Shell Shocked,” which he co-wrote and produced with Wiz Khalifa, Kill the Noise, Ty Dolla $ign, Juicy J, and Moxie under the Madsonik moniker. Two further 2015 releases, Furious 7 and Avengers: Age of Ultron, expanded his franchise résumé. In 2017 his music appeared in Power Rangers, Alex Kurtzman’s The Mummy, and The Fate of the Furious; simultaneously he and Robert Lydecker scored all four seasons of the television series Sleepy Hollow, including its Emmy-nominated main title theme.

Although earlier projects had already ventured into chamber and introspective realms, Tyler surprised listeners with the buoyant, romantic tone of Crazy Rich Asians in 2018. That same year he composed for the racing game F1 2018, the tenth installment in the Formula One series, and joined the production team of the Formula 1 television broadcast. He concluded the decade with contributions to Swamp Thing and Hawaii Five-O plus the 2019 films What Men Want and Escape Room.

Hawaii Five-O concluded its ten-season run in April 2020, after which Tyler scored the Disney musical drama Clouds. Subsequent high-profile assignments included F9 in 2021, Scream in 2022, and the animated feature Chip ’n Dale: Rescue Rangers that same year. In 2023 he extended his reach into Nintendo’s Mario universe by scoring the computer-animated film The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
