Biography
The Bruce Lee Band, assembled around Mike Park and a rotating lineup of musicians, blends ska's enduring rhythms with the energetic pop and punk elements long associated with Park and his Asian Man imprint. Park established the outfit in 1995, extending the musical approach he had cultivated as part of Skankin' Pickle since that band's inception in 1989. For their self-titled first record, which Asian Man put out in the same year, the project drew contributors from RX Bandits and Less Than Jake. Following this, the Bruce Lee Band entered a period of inactivity as Park focused on releases by Skankin' Pickle, the Chinkees, and his own solo work, alongside overseeing his thriving label. A decade passed before new output emerged in the form of the 2005 Beautiful World EP, after which the group again paused activities.
Activity resumed in 2014 via the Community Support Group EP, marking the first Bruce Lee Band release outside Park's label, and the full-length follow-up Everything Will Be Alright, My Friend appeared that year as well. In 2019, an energized ensemble including Jeff Rosenstock, MU330's Dan Potthast, and Kevin Higuchi delivered the seven-track mini-album Rental!! Eviction!! ~ Rich Wilson.
