Though Cari Lekebusch's studio work has not introduced significant advances within techno, he has maintained a steady output of dozens of singles issued under aliases including Mr. James Barth, Braincell and Vector, alongside releases under his own name. Born and raised in Stockholm, he began amassing records at a young age while capturing his own sonic experiments on tape. By the late '80s he was working as a professional DJ and staging local events throughout the region.

A few years afterward he moved into part-time production once he had built out equipment to establish Hybrid Studios. His recordings appeared on Planet Rhythm, Loop, Plumphouse, R&S, ffrr, Svek, Proper NYC, Drumcode and Harthouse; later he launched his own imprints—Hybrid Productions, Audio Pollution and Trainspotters Nightmare—in partnership with Planet Rhythm founder Glen Wilson. By the late '90s Hybrid had grown to encompass design services as well. Lekebusch issued his debut album, Man of Many Theories, under the Braincell moniker in 1996. The follow-up full-length, Mr. James Barth's Stealin' Music, arrived in 1998, and the following year he finally delivered an album credited to his own name. Additional credits include remixes for Claude Young, Steve Stoll, Surgeon and Adam Beyer, among others.
