Biography
Isaiah Major, widely recognized by his stage name DJ Rush, stands as a defining figure in Chicago’s house and techno landscape. His reputation rests on high-energy live performances and precise command of rhythm, qualities that carried his domestic successes from the 1980s and 1990s into a sustained European career beginning in the 2000s. More than twenty years later he remains a regular presence at clubs and festivals across the continent.
Born on Chicago’s south side, Rush began playing records at family gatherings while still a teenager, absorbing the vibrant textures of jazz, soul, funk, disco, and the city’s emerging house sound to shape his own approach. His outgoing personality and distinctive fashion sense quickly made him a familiar face in local nightlife, where he regularly delivered extended ten-hour sets at venues such as the Music Box, the Powerhouse, and the Warehouse.
His recording career opened with the 1991 Trax Records single “Knee Deep,” followed in 1996 by the albums Klub Kids and Rush Rules. Momentum in Europe soon prompted a relocation to Berlin, where in 2000 he established the Kne’Deep booking agency and label alongside Tina Panitzke. Throughout the ensuing decade Rush occupied a central position in the European techno circuit, releasing signature tracks such as “Freaks on Hubbard” and “Get on Up,” performing regularly, and supporting emerging producers through remixes and label output.
He later made his home in Portugal, maintaining a consistent release schedule that has included the albums You Better Ask Somebody (2009), Major Power (2014), Remembering My Roots (2016), Knee Deep (2020), and KD 100 (2022), along with numerous singles, EPs, and DJ mixes.
