Chuuwee

Born in 1990 as Dionte Chuuwee Hunter, the Sacramento, California rapper Chuuwee discovered his affinity for rap at an early age, though his first attempts at creating music were met with ridicule and dismissal. During childhood he composed poetry, only to face laughter from relatives after trying to perform rhymes over “Greensleeves.” In his teens he joined a student rap collective whose other members routinely mocked and undervalued his skills. Undeterred, he kept working until he established a presence within Northern California’s hip-hop scene through frequent performances and a steady stream of mixtapes. In 2011 he secured a recording contract with Amalgam Digital, the label then home to Lil B and Joe Budden. He maintained an intense release schedule, issuing more than a dozen mixtapes before unveiling his first proper studio album, Economics, in 2016. Further projects followed without pause, among them the 2017 LP Purgator, the 2018 mixtape PassOver, and numerous additional singles and tapes.
