Clinton Sparks began building his reputation by creating remixes of hit singles and passing them along to radio DJs throughout his home state of Massachusetts. From there he compiled mixtapes that he circulated across the East Coast, gaining sufficient influence to secure exclusive contributions from prominent MCs. Those efforts opened doors to on-air hosting duties for live radio shows in Boston, Baltimore, and Hartford, along with regular DJ sets on Eminem’s Shade 45 Sirius channel. In 2005 he joined forces with Koch Records to release the official mixtape Maybe You Been Brainwashed, a collection of his productions that included guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, Clipse, Diddy, and Mobb Deep. Even while advancing his profile through high-level production work, serving as a correspondent for E! News, and performing at major events, Sparks continued issuing remixes and mixtapes, among them the ongoing My Awesome Mixtape series. One standout moment arrived in 2011 when he produced “Bloody Mary” for Lady Gaga’s Grammy-nominated album Born This Way. After inking a deal with Matt Galle’s Photo Finish imprint, an Island/Def Jam affiliate, Sparks collaborated with Macklemore, 2 Chainz, and D.A. on the energetic single “Gold Rush,” which served as the lead track for his 2013 album Disco Ball & Chain.
