Biography
From childhood onward, Consuelo de Paula joined regional folkloric celebrations such as Congada and Folia de Reis in her home area. The Brazilian Popular Music Festival of southwest Minas Gerais, Brazil, designated her “revelation singer” in 1982. During her time in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais, she sang with the Federal University choir and took part in Bloco do Caixão. After training in singing, guitar, and percussion, she produced and directed her first release, Samba, Seresta e Baião (1998, reissued in 2000), which delved musically into the folklore realm. Now living in São Paulo, she appears regularly at SESC locations and other cultural venues.
