Jordan Corso operates under the Cotillon alias as a vocalist, composer, and guitarist. His work merges understated yet engaging strands of indie rock, psychedelia, surf guitar, and pop drawn from multiple periods, all refracted through his indirect yet compelling lyricism, a result he refers to as “flower punk.”

The project originated while Corso resided in Los Angeles and held a tedious office position. Having played guitar from childhood, he began shaping songs during lunch breaks simply to break the tedium. A failed relationship supplied abundant writing material, leading him to assemble a band for performing the new pieces. With guitarist Zachary Miller, a close associate, plus the rhythm section of Christopher Norman and Michael Madeiros, the trio adopted the Cotillon name and issued its debut EP, Votive Flower, in fall 2012. West Coast indie outlets responded with strong notices, after which the second EP, White Roses, followed in spring 2013.

Chet “JR” White of Girls responded enthusiastically to those early recordings and volunteered to produce a full-length album. The group reserved EastWest Studios, the former Western Recorders facility where the Beach Boys recorded Pet Sounds, before Corso continued overdubs and mixing with White at the latter’s San Francisco home studio. Captivated by the city, Corso relocated to the Bay Area, where a changing roster of musicians eventually supplanted the original lineup. A contract with California’s Burger Records yielded the self-titled debut LP in January 2015.

Subsequently Corso moved with his girlfriend to N.Y.C. and commenced writing for a follow-up. Co-producers Al Carlson, previously associated with St. Vincent and Wild Nothing, and Shane Butler of Quilt helped achieve a leaner approach on The Afternoons, which Burger and Modern Sky released in early 2017.
