During the hair metal era, the short-lived Cycle Sluts From Hell set out to broaden expectations for female heavy metal bands by showing that women could address standard metal themes—partying with the opposite sex, rocking out, and fast cars—with matching intensity. Four members performed under stage names such as She-Fire of Ice and Venus Penis Crusher. Rumors hold that one or two musicians from the N.Y.C. thrash metallists Overkill assisted with songwriting and performed on the quartet’s only album, the self-titled 1991 debut issued by Epic Records. Although MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball granted the group scant airplay while they were active, wider notice came several years later when Beavis & Butthead resurrected the video for the track “I Wish You Were a Beer.”
