Damon Wild stood out as one of the rare techno enthusiasts amid the house-dominated scene of New York City. He entered the world of vinyl in the early 1990s by cutting rave tracks such as “Night Stalker” under the name Sonic Assault II, “Stormwatch” as Morph, and “Rave Generator,” a collaboration with Ray Love credited to the Toxic Two. In 1991 he joined the distributor Northcott, where he launched his Experimental imprint and issued material from Acid Masters—the partnership he shared with Ray Love—alongside Lazer Worshippers, the project led by Tim Taylor, as well as Aurabora and the Rising Sons. Once his association with Northcott ended, Wild established Synewave Records, through which he issued both his own work and releases by Steve Stoll and Dan Curtin. A 1999 compilation titled Somewhere in Time gathered his Synewave productions, while the more evenly balanced Synewave DJ Mix, Vol. 1 presented another overview of the label’s catalog. His Morph alias also delivered a full-length album, the 1994 set Stormwatch.
