Dari burst onto the Italian scene in 2008 as one of its flashiest novelty outfits, their vivid presentation and surrounding buzz often eclipsing any deeper musical substance. The group first assembled in Aosta during 2004, its founding roster featuring singer-guitarist Dario "Dari" Pirovano, bassist Fabio "Fab" Cuffari, keyboardist Andrea "Cadio" Cadioli, and drummer Willy. The next year the quartet entered several domestic rock competitions, among them Arezzo Wave, Rock Targato Italia, and Tavagnasco Rock. Around the same time they connected with manager-producer Massimo Gabutti—the architect behind Eiffel 65’s global breakthrough—who brought them aboard his Bliss Corporation imprint. By 2007 the band had begun tracking material for its debut record with producers Domenico Capuano and Federico Malandrino; together they shaped the group’s signature “emotronik” style, a bright fusion of ’80s-inflected electro-pop and breezy emocore that drew from both contemporary acts such as Tokio Hotel and Alberto Camerini’s earlier catalog. Their inaugural single, “Wale (Tanto Wale),” appeared in March 2008 and quickly gained traction through its buoyant melody, striking video, and unconventional image, resonating especially with teenage listeners drawn to its mildly daring visuals despite the otherwise harmless pop-rock core. Daniel “Fasa” Fasano had already stepped in for Willy by the time the first album, Sottovuoto Generazionale, arrived in September 2008.
