Darren Kiely hails from Ireland and delivers vocals marked by soulful grit while crafting emotionally direct material that draws from traditional folk roots yet sits closer to contemporary folk-pop voices such as Hozier and Dermot Kennedy. Following his 2022 relocation to New York, he introduced himself with the intense single “How Could You Love Me” and spent the subsequent two years expanding his output. Songs including “Ella” and the 2023 release “Time to Leave” reached the upper tiers of Ireland’s viral charts, and in 2024 he issued his debut EP, From the Dark.

Raised in a modest village in County Cork, Kiely absorbed Irish traditional music from an early age. As a child he studied tin whistle and fiddle before shifting focus to guitar, and around 2019 he began shaping his vocal style under the influence of indie folk ensembles such as the Lumineers and Mumford & Sons. His raw vocal texture and sincere, fervent songwriting earned him a modest local following, though momentum increased only after he settled in New York in 2022. The acoustic ballad “How Could You Love Me,” his first single, resonated back home and joined his following two releases on Ireland’s viral charts. One year after arriving in New York he relocated to Nashville to refine his craft. The 2023 track “Lost and Found” and the early-2024 song “Sunrise” appeared during this period, after which he became the flagship act for Sony’s Free Flight Records, a freshly established non-country imprint based in Nashville. In May of that year the label put out Kiely’s initial EP, From the Dark, at the same time he launched a tour across Ireland.
