David & Steve Gordon, recognized for their groundbreaking work in world fusion, global electronica, and meditation music, have built an extensive catalog since emerging in the early 1980s. Through Sequoia Records the pair has delved into numerous styles of healing and relaxation music, ranging from Shamanic drum and Native flute pieces to ambient chillout and gentle acoustic guitar and piano compositions. Standout releases include the 1987 album Garden of Serenity, the 1994 project Sacred Earth Drums, and the popular Café de Luna and Buddha Lounge compilations issued during the 2000s, while later efforts such as Theta Waves Zen Meditation in 2018 and Quantum Theta Waves in 2020 further expanded their range of therapeutic sounds.

Musicians from childhood onward, David and Steve sustained their dedication through college, where they received classical instruction and performed in jazz ensembles throughout Los Angeles. Serving as session musicians in the early 1980s, the brothers regularly visited Sequoia National Park to find calm amid its natural surroundings, an experience that prompted them to merge field recordings with ambient new age music; their first joint album appeared in 1982. Issued as the debut title on their Sequoia Records imprint, Misty Forest Morning achieved immediate success and launched a creative trajectory that produced distinctive works such as Garden of Serenity in 1987, Music of the Tarot in 1993, and the pivotal 1994 world fusion album Sacred Earth Drums. That release introduced tribal drum and Native American flute elements, a direction continued on the 1999 Billboard-charting release Drum Medicine and on Sacred Drum Visions in 2002.

Moving toward new age and global electronica, the Gordons created the Sequoia Groove imprint and began issuing the Buddha Lounge series in the early 2000s. Incorporating tracks by a wide array of international musicians alongside their own electronic chillout material, the series became a cornerstone of the label and was followed by the similarly successful Café de Luna series. At the same time David and Steve refined their electronic fusion on Soothing Sanctuary in 2006 and Yoga Planet in 2008. Their commitment to healing and meditation persisted through later projects, including Chakra Balance in 2013 and a sequence of recordings exploring binaural beats and isochronic tones, among them Delta Waves Sleep in 2016 and Quantum Theta Waves in 2020.
