Medwyn Goodall

Cornwall-based composer and multi-instrumentalist Medwyn Goodall has long been a fixture in the new age genre, amassing an extensive catalog of instrumental recordings that stretches back to the closing years of the 1980s. Early projects appeared on the New World and Oreade imprints before he established his own MG Music label in 2002, allowing his expressive work to explore spiritual and environmental themes alongside Celtic and lush new age textures. Multiple gold certifications and dozens of albums underscore his sustained activity, which continued into the 2020s through titles such as The Wolfstone (2021) and the seventh installment in his Medicine Woman series.

Born in Yorkshire, Goodall took up guitar and began composing original pieces while still young. His teenage rock band Trax drew regional notice, after which he opened a recording studio and produced artists spanning classical and punk. By the middle of the 1980s he had mastered piano, synthesizer, drums, harp, mandolin, panpipes, and vibraphone while cultivating a deepening focus on environmental and new age music. The instrumental career launched with Emergence in 1987 on the New World Music label. From that point onward Goodall operated as a self-sufficient creator, writing, performing, and producing material that New World often issued two or three times annually. He also maintained the Midori alias for more therapeutic and relaxation-oriented releases. By the late 1990s additional output found release through the Dutch label Oreade Music, encompassing series such as The Druid Trilogy, The Arthurian Collection, and the continuing Medicine Woman sequence.

In the opening years of the twenty-first century he activated the MG Music imprint to oversee both the Midori catalog and the broader range of recordings issued under his own name. Across the following two decades the pace stayed consistent, routinely reaching two or more projects each year, with 2017 alone producing four new collections plus two anthologies. That momentum extended into the next decade via 2021’s Learning to Be Free and 2022’s Medicine Woman (Seven).
