Biography
Tim Wheater, a flautist and composer who calls himself a "sound healer," launched his formal training at the Guildhall School of Music in London. He later secured a scholarship that took him to Paris for studies with Marcel Moyse, Jean-Pierre Rampal and Roger Bourdin. A period at New York's Eastman School of Music under James Galway came next, after which Wheater toured alongside the dance-pop outfit Bronski Beat. Three years with Eurythmics followed, and he subsequently collaborated with Ugly Kid Joe. His appearances have ranged from the London Symphony Orchestra to jazz players such as Sonny Stitt and Al DiMiola. Wheater issued his first solo ambient recording, A Calmer Panorama, in 1988; later projects include 1991's Mistral: The Wind of Change, 1994's Fish Night Moon, 1997's This Earth and 1999's Incantation. In partnership with fellow flautist Michael Hoppé he also created the albums The Yearning, The Dreamer and Wind Songs.
