Biography
David Jordan first drew widespread attention in 2008 through his breakout single “Sun Goes Down,” establishing the singer/songwriter and ebullient live performer as an emerging British pop talent. The artist, born David Keith Jordan in Barnet, London, England, in 1985 to a Montserratian mother and a Calcuttan father, started composing material during his teenage years under the sway of Prince, Lenny Kravitz, James Brown, Marvin Gaye, and Jimi Hendrix. Eventually “Sun Goes Down” reached Jill Sinclair at ZTT Records, who directed the young songwriter to her husband, the veteran producer Trevor Horn. This connection led to a Mercury Records contract and the 2007 release of Jordan’s debut album, Set the Mood. Horn handled production duties, and the project was launched with the lead single “Place in My Heart,” offered as a free download via the British newspaper The Sun’s website. Although Set the Mood entered the U.K. albums chart at a modest number 98 upon its October 2007 release, the set later climbed higher after the successive appearances of the follow-up “Sun Goes Down,” which reached the Top Five on the U.K. singles chart, and the third single, “Move On.”
