Biography
Australia's Daniel Merriweather draws inspiration from boundary-pushers such as Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Jeff Buckley, marking him as an independent creative voice even though R&B forms his core association. This smooth vocalist first registered with wide audiences in 2003 via a guest spot on Mark Ronson's wide-ranging album Here Comes the Fuzz. His debut single "City Rules," issued the following year, paired smooth soul textures and social observation alongside rapper Saigon. Placement on a Damon Dash mixtape opened Merriweather to U.S. urban listeners, while multiple U.K. outlets named the track their single of the week. Global traction accelerated in 2007 after he rejoined Ronson to blend the Smiths' "Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before" with the Supremes' "You Keep Me Hangin' On," resulting in the single "Stop Me" that appeared on Ronson's album Version. His first full-length project, Love & War, surfaced in 2009 together with the single "Change."
