Biography
Germany's Desaster derived their name from Destruction's classic track "Total Desaster," placing them in a second generation of deliberate misspellings while pursuing a post-thrash direction with pronounced black metal leanings during their formative phase, much like their primary influence. Formed in the town of Koblenz in 1988, the band operated in considerable obscurity and did not issue their debut album, A Touch of Medieval Darkness, until a full eight years later. The cheekily named lineup of Okkulto on vocals, Infernal on guitar, Odin on bass, and Tormentor on drums soon accelerated their output, delivering the Stormbringer EP in 1997, Hellfire's Dominion the following year, and the Ten Years of Total Desaster compilation in 1999. By then their style had crystallized into pure black metal, and Tyrants of the Netherworld in 2000 became Okkulto's final recording with the group. Divine Blasphemies appeared in 2002, introducing Sataniac as the new frontman. A subsequent deal with Metal Blade yielded the 2005 studio album Angelwhore, followed by the seventh full-length, Satan's Soldiers Syndicate, in 2007. In 2012 the band marked their 20th anniversary with the release of their eighth album, Arts of Destruction.
