Throughout their time together, this Flint, Michigan outfit has cycled through several expansions of the DFC initials—Dope Flint Connection at the outset, followed by variants such as Da Flint Crew and Da Funk Crew—while preserving an unwavering hardcore approach. Emerging among the earliest rap acts from the Midwest to gain wider notice, MC Breed & DFC reached audiences in 1991 with the single “Ain’t No Future in Yo’ Frontin’.” The self-titled album that housed the track marked the sole occasion on which DFC shared billing with MC Breed; nevertheless, the duo of Al “Alpha” Breed—MC Breed’s cousin—and T-Trouble E have sustained close ties with their former collaborator. Their inaugural independent project, Things in tha Hood, carried production credits for both MC Breed and Warren G and yielded the minor hit “Caps Get Peeled,” which featured MC Eiht. A follow-up album, Whole World’s Rotten, appeared in 1997, after which the group fell silent.
