Also known as La Fonky or la FF, the Fonky Family formed as a French hip-hop crew originating from Marseille. The collective surfaced in 1994 and recorded their initial track for Akhenaton’s debut solo album, which appeared in 1995. Their own first full-length project arrived in 1997 under the title Si Dieu Veut; the record earned gold certification for strong sales, yet founding member Karima left the lineup shortly afterward. Although la FF would not reappear on the French charts for several years, the members stayed active by issuing two live EPs in 1999 and 2000 while collaborating with other leading French hip-hop acts. Their second studio album, Art de Rue, reached stores in 2001. Following that release the group paused collective work to pursue solo projects, then reunited in 2006 to deliver the third album Marginal Musique. The project resonated with French audiences and entered the charts at number one.
