Biography
A German audio drama franchise titled Die Drei ???, or alternatively Die Drei Fragezeichen, originated as an adaptation of the American juvenile mystery novels known collectively as The Three Investigators. Those books centered on characters devised by Robert Arthur, Jr. From 1964 through 1987 the American run encompassed 43 volumes that followed Jupiter Jones, Pete Crenshaw, and Bob Andrews, three teenage sleuths who unraveled cases laced with eerie phenomena. When the property reached German audiences in 1993, publishers retitled it Die Drei ??? and changed Jupiter Jones to Justus Jonas along with Pete Crenshaw to Peter Shaw. The localized version achieved striking commercial success, most notably through its audio editions, which eventually surpassed one hundred installments and outpaced the number of printed volumes. That level of popularity prompted screen adaptations intended for worldwide distribution. The German film cycle opened with Das Geheimnis der Geisterinsel in 2007, later issued abroad as The Three Investigators and the Secret of Skeleton Island in 2008, before continuing with Das Verfluchte Schloss in 2009.
