One of the drum'n'bass producers responsible for shaping the sound of the Metalheadz label in the early '90s, Digital stood among the genre's most accomplished figures from that era through the following decade. Born Steve Carr in Ipswich, England, he gained early exposure to music by assisting his father with sound systems. In his teens, acquaintances started addressing him by his chosen pseudonym. From 1989 onward he played reggae selections on area sound systems, yet the emerging rave movement soon reached Ipswich and sparked his interest in its rapid development, leading to a friendship with Photek. His debut production, "Touch Me," appeared on Timeless Records in 1992 and was followed by "Down Under." Goldie noticed the latter after hearing Doc Scott play it at the legendary Speed club, prompting Digital to align with the Metalheadz camp. The "Niagra"/"Down Under" 12" came out on Metalheadz in 1996 and confirmed his standing within the U.K. drum'n'bass community. Additional tracks followed on imprints including Photek Productions, Creative Source, and Timeless.
