Diving With Andy emerged in the early 00s as a French Indie-Pop trio based in Paris, built around Juliette Paquereau on vocals, Julien Perreaudeau handling guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, and Rémy Galichet on piano and guitars, while splitting their activities between France and England. Initial notice arrived through Les Inrockuptibles magazine’s 2003 newcomer contest, after which the group traveled to Bruxelles, Belgium to lay down their debut self-titled LP in 2004. Commercial traction remained elusive, yet critics responded favorably, praising the way the band absorbed Brit-Pop and melancholic Smiths-derived influences, delivered through Juliette Paquereau’s beautiful voice free of the characteristic French accent that often undermines the lyrical believability of similar acts, together with the instrumental skill of the other two members.
