A chance encounter in 1998 transformed DJ Marky’s path when Brian D. caught his set inside a São Paulo nightclub. Although crowds in Brazil remained thin, the Brazilian quickly established himself within Britain’s drum’n'bass circuit, where he earned a reputation for distinctive style through monthly residencies at Bar Rumba in Piccadilly Circus and live radio mixes. English critics named him “revelation of the year” in 1999. That same year his compilation Workin’ the Mix featured material by E-Z Rollers and DJ Swift. He then traveled across Canada, Holland, Ireland, and England, culminating in a May 1999 support slot for Prodigy at the Close Up Planet festival before an audience of 20,000. Audio Architecture appeared in 2000 and moved 30,000 units across Europe; he also contributed to Otto’s double-disc project Changez Tout. Two years later a remix of “LK (Carolina Carol Bela),” originally recorded by Jorge Ben and Toquinho, reached the British charts amid a broader drum’n'bass resurgence. Amid constant international travel he delivered a 2004 Essential Mix for the BBC and began issuing his own mixing and occasional production work on the Innerground label through the collections In Rotation (2004), The Wizard (2006), The Master Plan (2007), and Makoto (2009). Additional mix projects include the 4hero collaboration The Kings of Drum + Bass and Fabriclive.55 in the long-running Fabric Records series.
