Biography
Doll Skin emerged as a high-octane rock quartet whose style bridges pop-punk energy with metal intensity. Formed in Phoenix, Arizona in 2013, the all-female group consists of vocalist Sydney Dolezal, guitarist Alex Snowden, bassist Nicole Rich, and drummer Meghan Herring. The members first connected while studying at the Phoenix School of Rock and assembled the band specifically to enter Rock Revolution, a Scottsdale high-school battle of the bands. Thrash-metal veteran David Ellefson, bassist for Megadeth, served as one of the contest judges; after Doll Skin took first place, he signed on as both mentor and manager, convinced of their professional potential. Under his guidance the quartet hit the road, sharpening their stage presence with West Coast support slots alongside D.R.I. and Social Distortion.
Their first recording, the six-song EP In Your Face, appeared in 2015 and was produced by Ellefson; an expanded edition titled In Your Face (Again) followed in 2016. That same year the Heavy Metal Television Awards named them Best Breakthrough Band, and Alternative Press spotlighted the group in its feature “Seven of the Best Rising Bands Under 21.” Extensive touring continued, with headline club dates and opening stints for Otep, Hellyeah, Escape the Fate, and the Dead Kennedys. Doll Skin issued their debut full-length album, Manic Pixie Dream Girl, in 2017 and later joined several dates on the Vans Warped Tour. Their second studio album, Love Is Dead and We Killed Her, arrived in 2019 via Hopeless Records.
