Emerging in 2008 from Oceanside, California, the Bombpops deliver taut, hooky pop-punk rooted in the longstanding Southern California tradition. Guitarists and vocalists Poli van Dam and Jen Razavi have steered the band through repeated lineup shifts, with Razavi noting in a 2017 interview that “We’ve had three drummers and six bass players.” After establishing themselves on Southern California stages, the group issued its debut EP, … Like I Care, as a self-release in 2010; Red Scare Industries later reissued that recording and followed it in 2011 with the second EP, Stole the TV. Plans to record a debut full-length under the guidance of Tony Sly of No Use for a Name were halted by Sly’s sudden passing in 2012. A 2014 self-released single pairing “Can O'Worms” with “Breathe” marked the arrival of the band’s steadiest configuration, uniting van Dam and Razavi with bassist Neil Wayne and drummer Josh Lewis. Momentum paused again when van Dam’s pregnancy required a temporary break from studio and road work. Activity resumed in 2016 as the group enlisted Chris Fogal of the Gamits to produce its long-awaited album. Fat Wreck Chords, the storied punk imprint, then signed the Bombpops and issued Fear of Missing Out in February 2017.
