Biography
Following the drone legends Earth's unveiling of the opening chapter in Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light, Dylan Carlson launched DRCARLSONALBION in 2011 to pursue further the fusion of traditional English music and glacial post-rock already present in his band work. The project steers Earth's sonic approach toward greater sparseness and introspection, reducing Carlson's guitar to its most elemental gestures and thereby generating the contemplative atmosphere that defines DRCARLSONALBION's understated instrumental reflections. The solo outlet first surfaced in 2012 through three concurrent releases—an LP titled La Strega and the Cunning Man in the Smoke, the paired 7" singles Modern English Folklore Vol. One: Hackney and Modern English Folklore Volume One: Remixes, and the limited-edition cassette Edward Kelley's Blues. Two years later Carlson located an ideal setting for his understated, searching improvisations in Gold, the score to a foreign-language western depicting German pioneers crossing the Canadian west.
