Melbourne has long nurtured Australia's most inventive style leaders, provocateurs, and punks, so it was only fitting that Dukes of Windsor would emerge there. Singer Jack Weaving assembled the group by linking up with local music students Oscar Dawson on guitar and Joe Franklin on bass, then bringing back keyboardist Scott Targett and drummer Cory Blight from his earlier outfit The Surrogate, whose Gentlemen's Hardcore EP had already made an impression. After spending months shaping songs in Blight's bedroom, the band started playing shows across Melbourne and cut its debut EP with Swedish hardcore producers Pelle Henricsson and Eskil Lövström.

Issued in 2006, the band's first album The Others received an immediate lift when dance duo TV Rock remixed the title track; the version rose steadily on the charts and turned into an instant summer favorite. Riding that momentum, the Dukes headed to Sweden in 2008 to lay down their follow-up record, once again working with Henricsson and Lövström.
