Biography
Australia's Gold Fields surfaced in 2010 when their single "Treehouse" began receiving radio exposure, establishing an '80s new wave-influenced sound that later broadened on the 2013 debut Black Sun through echoes of Duran Duran alongside the 1975 and M83.
The group assembled that same year in Ballarat, a Melbourne suburb located in Victoria, Australia, with Mark Robert Fuller handling vocals, Vin Andanar on guitar, Rob Clifton on keyboards, Luke Peldys on bass, and Ryan D'Sylva on drums. Childhood friends, they committed to forming a band after seeing Temper Trap at Australia's Falls Festival, adopted the name of the South-Eastern Australia Gold Fields region, and promptly cut several singles. One of them, "Treehouse," landed on national station Triple J's Unearthed program. The resulting attention led to U.K. tours, after which Astralwerks discovered and signed them, releasing their self-titled 2011 EP. Black Sun, their first full-length album, followed in 2013 and spotlighted the single "Dark Again."
Extensive touring and work on new material occupied the subsequent years until the 2019 release of their second album, Dalawa. Tony Espie, known for prior work with the Avalanches, Architecture in Helsinki, and Cut Copy, produced the record, which featured the track "Cocoon" along with the three songs originally included on the 2018 Glow EP.
