A minimalist pop duo hailing from California’s shoreline, DWLLRS craft nostalgic, atmospheric tracks built on clever hooks and ethereal lyrics that echo late-night existential conversations among college roommates. Tracks such as “Blue Spirits,” “Float Through the Ceiling,” and “Dividends” have each drawn millions of streams, signaling a broad connection with listeners.

Bren Eissman and Joey Spurgeon, the singer-guitarists who comprise DWLLRS, both spent their formative years in the coastal community of San Clemente, California. Their long-standing bond took shape while they were students at Vanguard University of Southern California, where Eissman pursued filmmaking and Spurgeon studied psychology while nurturing a strong passion for music and studio craft. Channeling their shared fascination with life’s larger questions, the pair adopted the name DWLLRS and issued their debut single, “And Then We’ll Be Alright,” in early 2020. They stockpiled additional material that year—“It’s Only Up from Here” and “We’re All Just Falling and Flying” among them—refining a sound of close-miked electric guitars, graceful vocal lines, and subtle electronic textures that nodded to one of their key influences, Frank Ocean.

Following further 2021 releases (“You,” “Fiction”), the duo experienced a breakthrough in 2022: they joined Island Records and saw “Float Through the Ceiling” and “Blue Spirits” ignite across social platforms. Field invitations for live dates prompted intensive rehearsals to adapt their intimate arrangements for the stage, steadily expanding their audience. Between tour commitments they dropped more singles, among them “Dividends,” “Driving,” “This Heaven’s Tall,” and “Perfume.” Their subsequent project is slated for 2025.
