Led by songwriter Jake Berglove’s agile rasp, Early Eyes craft uplifting alt-pop that folds in soul, bedroom pop, and smooth sophisti-pop. While still enrolled at college, the Minneapolis-based group sold out local venues ahead of issuing their first EP, Minutes, in 2017. After inking a deal with Epitaph, they unveiled their debut full-length, Look Alive!, in 2022.

The quartet came together at the University of Minnesota in October 2016, its original roster consisting of Jake Berglove on vocals and guitar, Harry Patterson on guitar, Des Lawrence on bass, and Wyatt Fuller on drums. They swiftly built a Twin Cities audience, claimed the National Endowment for the Arts Songwriting Challenge, earned a City Pages nomination for Best New Band of 2017, and took the publication’s music-video prize for “Coffee.” Minutes surfaced in May 2017; “Coffee” soon logged modest viral traction, prompting the October release of a second EP, All Shades of Teal. Mid-2018 brought the six-track Decorating.

Epitaph Records signed the band in January 2020. That March, the introspective single “Marigolds” surpassed one million streams and later anchored the Sunbathing EP, which appeared in November. Pandemic restrictions halted touring and prompted a personnel shift; Berglove, John O’Brien, and Joe Villano recorded the debut album, each handling several instruments, while Lawrence supplied additional bass parts. Caleb Hinz (Samia, Hippo Campus) produced the sessions, and Look Alive! reached stores via Epitaph in February 2022.
