Biography
The Happy Fits channel an exuberant strain of indie folk and alternative pop laced with garage-rock energy, one that emphasizes communal appeal alongside memorable hooks. The New Jersey trio—high school friends Calvin Langman on cello and vocals, Ross Monteith on guitar, and Luke Davis on percussion—first assembled in 2016 as a temporary summer endeavor prior to their college years. After their initial EP Awfully Apeelin' gained widespread streaming traction, the group committed fully to music and shifted operations to N.Y.C. Their 2018 debut album Concentrate highlighted the members’ range across both singing and playing. The expansive 2020 follow-up What Could Be Better further endeared them to listeners and spotlighted two standout tracks, “She Wants Me (To Be Loved)” and “Hold Me Down.” Under the Shade of Green, released in 2022, confronted the overlapping crises of the preceding period—COVID-19, climate change, and sociopolitical tensions—while retaining the band’s characteristic hopeful tone and sticky melodies. Monteith departed soon after that record appeared, and Raina Mullen and Nicole Rosenbach entered as guitarists and vocalists the following year.
