Biography
Based in Vancouver, British Columbia, EKKSTACY blends an array of somber and ominous genres, weaving synth pop with intermittent trap pulses, bursts of indie brightness, and post-punk shadows to produce a style that shifts from one track to the next. Alongside his widely circulated singles and various joint recordings, the artist mapped out this range on the dark, gothic-leaning full-length Misery, issued in 2022. Further genre boundaries were tested on the self-titled 2024 album EKKSTACY.
Music entered EKKSTACY’s life as early as age 14, with original material first appearing in 2020 at age 18; those initial tracks stretched from the punk-tinged pop of “Stupid Kids” to the anguished, post-XXXTentacion emo trap of “Uncomparable.” The debut album Negative followed in 2021, highlighted by the buoyant synth-pop cut “i walk this earth all by myself,” which later amassed hundreds of millions of streams. Near the same time he teamed with the Drums for “f*ck everything!” and reunited with longtime friend Herhexx on the wistful “i want to be by your side.” Misery arrived in full in September 2022; titles such as “christian death” and a sharper, punk-edged attack signaled deeper goth and doom-pop currents. Several 2023 singles previewed the 2024 project EKKSTACY, which carried guest turns from Trippie Redd and the Kid LAROI.
