An idiosyncratic indie pop keyboardist, Eric Malmberg built trippy compositions centered on reverb-soaked Hammond organ textures that recalled the work of Hansson & Karlsson. In the early 2000s Swedish indie scene he earned notice both through solo work and as half of the instrumental indie pop duo Sagor & Swing. His debut arrived as the 1995 album Professor Huberts Underbara Uppfinning, after which he issued two further releases while active in Sagor & Swing: Sju Melodier Och Ett Enda Långt Ljud in 2000 and En Skattkista Längst Nere På Botten Av Ett Stort Hav in 2002. When the duo disbanded in 2004, Malmberg returned with his fourth solo album, the 2005 concept release Den Gåtfulla Människan (The Enigmatic Human), designed to evoke an inward voyage through the human psyche. Shortly following that record’s appearance, the Swedish documentary Creative Illness examined Malmberg’s intense bond with his music, a connection he linked in part to an autistic spectrum disorder. His fifth full-length album, Verklighet & Beat, surfaced in 2007.
