Biography
Erran Baron Cohen, a British composer, trumpeter, and multi-instrumentalist, belongs to the world fusion ensemble Zohar and is the sibling of comedian and actor Sacha Baron Cohen. Though classically trained on trumpet, the London native absorbed a broad spectrum of sounds during his upbringing—klezmer, jazz, hip-hop, rock, and dance music—that later shaped Zohar’s distinctive style. His wide-ranging sensibility likewise colored the scores he contributed to his brother’s television and film endeavors, among them the popular 2006 mockumentary Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. In 2008 he issued the Hanukkah-themed collection Erran Baron Cohen Presents: Songs in the Key of Hanukkah, which blended traditional Jewish melodies with newly written pieces rendered in modern idioms; guest performers included rapper Y-Love, singer Yasmin Levy, and additional artists.
