Biography
The Vonlichten brothers, Helmut and Franz, both natives of Los Angeles who received their early piano instruction from their mother, constitute the duo known as E.S. Posthumus. Following his high school graduation, Franz pursued employment in recording studios, whereas Helmut pursued higher education at UCLA and completed his degree there. In 2000, the siblings established E.S. Posthumus, with the initials denoting Experimental Sounds and the name Posthumus signifying all things past. Their compositions blended electronica with sounds reminiscent of film scores. The album Unearthed was recorded and subsequently offered through the CDBaby online platform starting in January 2001. Portions of this recording found widespread licensing for motion picture and television productions, notably appearing in promotional trailers for Planet of the Apes, Minority Report, and Spider-Man. The piece titled Nara served as the signature theme for the CBS program Cold Case. Having achieved status as CDBaby's third highest-selling release ever, Unearthed reached physical retail outlets in May 2005 via 33rd Street Records and Bayside Distribution. Concurrently, E.S. Posthumus crafted a fresh theme for The NFL on CBS.
