Biography
Fitness Forever's upbeat indie pop, centered on fitness motifs, aligned seamlessly with Elefant Records' early-2000s roster, which included similarly buoyant and playful acts like La Casa Azul and Cola Jet Set. The four musicians Paster, "Big Tony" Fresa, Luigi Scialdone, and Carlos Valderrama assembled to launch the band in 2006. Paster alone was making her first appearance as a lead vocalist through Fitness Forever, whereas the others were already occupied with separate endeavors: Fresa with Kantango and Fresa Trio, Valderrama across multiple outfits including the Preachers and Valderrama 5, and Scialdone alongside projects such as Inigo and Marzouk. The group began under EMI, issuing its initial single "Mondo Fitness" in 2007. Friction with that label prompted a switch to Elefant Records the next year. Their first long-player, Personal Train, followed in 2009. After an extended pause, the band resurfaced in 2013 with the sophomore album Cosmos, shaped by soft rock and Brazilian pop influences. True to their measured studio habits, another four years elapsed before the next release. Tonight arrived in 2017, steeped in disco and particularly Italo disco textures, while showcasing guest turns by Vincent Mougel of Kidsaredead, Anna Jean of Juniore, and Paulita Demaíz, the founding singer of Papa Topo. Reinforcing their dedication to reviving classic disco aesthetics, Antoine "Chab" Chabert mixed the record, the same engineer who received a Grammy for his work on Daft Punk's Random Access Memories.
