Frank Schöbel

Born in 1942 in Leipzig, then an East German city, Frank Schöbel rose as a popular German singer whose father had earned renown on the opera stage. He began performing while still a child, yet his growing attachment to pop soon eclipsed any commitment to theater, guiding him instead into recording sessions that produced his first complete solo album. The 1972 release Wie ein Stern (Like a Star) placed the young performer at the center of attention, a position he held for the remainder of his working life. Further albums appeared in the years that followed, together with his marriages to fellow singers Chris Doerk and later Aurora Lacasa. With the latter he had a daughter, Dominique Lacasa, who herself built a career as a vocalist.
