Biography
From Venezuela, classical piano prodigy Gabriela Montero has collaborated with premier ensembles such as the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Philharmonic, and Hannover’s NDR. Her initial public appearance occurred at five years old, followed three years afterward by a concerto engagement with the Venezuelan Youth Orchestra ‘Simon Bolivar.’ A government scholarship enabled her to pursue studies in the United States. Worldwide acclaim arrived before adolescence, when she captured first prizes at the Baldwin National Competition and the AMSA Young Artist International Piano Competition. Appearances at Lincoln Center, Munich’s Herkulessaal, and Tokyo’s Orchard Hall soon followed.
In 2005 EMI Classics issued her debut recording, Piano Recital, a two-disc set presenting Liszt and Chopin alongside an entire disc of her own improvisations. Bach and Beyond appeared the next year, succeeded in 2007 by Baroque.
