Biography
Genevieve Stokes landed a deal with a major label right after finishing high school by blending confessional songwriting with a full-bodied tone and raw vocal edge. Her first release, the piano-driven Swimming Lessons EP, came out in 2021, followed two years later by the second EP, Catching Rabbits.
Raised in Maine and now living in Portland, she began piano lessons and composing at eight, soon teaming up with a friend for regular open-mic nights. At fourteen she joined the Maine Academy of Modern Music, where she eventually captured dozens of tracks on her phone and released “Little Houses” during her sophomore year. A filmed set earned her management in 2019, the same year she received her diploma from Falmouth High. Those early recordings had already amassed millions of streams when Atlantic signed her in mid-2020.
While still a student, she tracked her seven-song debut EP, Swimming Lessons, inside a rented cabin; the project surfaced in March 2021 as work on a full-length album continued. She opened 2022 with the intense single “Habits,” produced by Tony Berg (Taylor Swift, Pheoebe Bridgers). That track and five additional songs filled out the 2023 EP Catching Rabbits.
