Biography
Italy's Giuda assembled a high-powered rock & roll vehicle by repurposing elements of glam's past, fusing the heavy-booted stomp of junk shop glam practitioners Slade, Mud, and the Sweet with the cocky thrust of early punk. The Roman five-piece cultivated a devoted worldwide audience through releases such as the 2010 album Racey Roller and 2015's Speak No Evil, logging extensive road miles across Europe and the United States before inking a deal with Burger Records in California for their fourth LP, E.V.A., issued in 2019.
Tenda on lead vocals and guitarist Lorenzo launched Giuda in Rome during 2007 after their previous outfit, the acclaimed Italian punk band Taxi, dissolved following the sudden passing of drummer Francesco. Several months afterward the pair felt prepared to resume creating music and elected to begin afresh, recruiting former Taxi bassist Danilo along with newcomers Michele on guitar and Daniele on drums. They took the name Giuda, the Italian word for Judas, and commenced performing live dates. The group cultivated a sporty image that reflected their deep interest in football while crafting a sound that openly nodded to the chart-oriented wing of British glam from the 1970s, quickly attracting a loyal concert crowd. Their debut album Racey Roller appeared in early 2010 inside a sleeve designed to resemble a long-lost vintage glam LP discovered in a junk shop. Extensive touring throughout Europe, the U.K., and the United States followed, during which the band forged numerous new connections. Def Leppard's Joe Elliott, a longtime admirer of glam, offered enthusiastic praise, stating, "When I heard Racey Roller, I was p---ing my pants laughing, because it's so brilliant, so exhilarating and fun." Giuda delivered their sophomore effort Let's Do It Again in 2013, spotlighting the tracks "Hold Me Tight" and "Wild Tiger Woman," then returned in late 2015 with another set of glammy stompers and high-energy rock numbers titled Speaks Evil. In subsequent years they concentrated on standalone singles, among them 2017's "Rock 'n' Roll Music" and a 2018 rendition of Elton John's "Saturday Night's All Right for Fighting," before unveiling the full-length E.V.A. in April 2019 through Burger Records.
