Biography
GothBoiClique helped pioneer the emo-rap hybrid sound that took shape throughout the 2010s. Their tracks layer samples drawn from pop-punk and indie rock over hazy, atmospheric productions while exploring heartbreak, depression, and dark, macabre visuals that echo the early work of Three 6 Mafia. Based in Los Angeles, the collective was founded by Wicca Phase Springs Eternal, Cold Hart, and Horse Head, with additional members including Lil Tracy, Fish Narc, and the late Lil Peep. Although the artists have issued far more music on their own than together, the group put out one mixtape, Yeah It's True, in 2016, mounted a full tour in 2019, and dropped the single "Tiramisu" that same year.
The name originated from a beat Cold Hart first sent to Wicca Phase, and GothBoiClique coalesced around 2013. Early additions to the lineup included Lil Tracy, YAWNS, and Døves; though the collective was centered in Los Angeles, several participants lived elsewhere and kept in touch through online group chats. A substantial portion of the roster also belonged to Thraxxhouse, the sprawling Los Angeles- and Seattle-based collective that dissolved around 2015 once it grew too large and difficult to coordinate, allowing GothBoiClique to establish its own identity. The 2016 release of the mixtape Yeah It's True coincided with Lil Peep's arrival. Solo projects from the circle appeared in quick succession, among them Wicca Phase's Secret Boy and Cold Hart's Marvelous Misadventures of Coldy. Lil Peep attracted the widest press attention both prior to and following his death in November 2017. His posthumous album Come Over When You're Sober, Pt. 2 reached number four on the Billboard 200 in 2018, while the single "Falling Down," a collaboration with XXXTentacion, appeared on two dozen international charts and hit number one in Finland, New Zealand, Norway, and Sweden. In 2019 GothBoiClique launched the Love Gang Forever Tour and issued the single "Tiramisu."
